Eleventh Annual Harriers Hounds 40 Metre Sand Sprint

Two-year-old Katie beat her sister and last year's champion, Maisie, in a spirited sprint on the beach of Thetis Lake Park today to claim first place honours and the coveted Molly Reid Top Dog trophy for 2018.  Their times were less than one half a second apart by hitting the finish line in 4.59 and 5.01 seconds.  There were six hounds to run the course with guest dog, Stella, placing 5th in 6.41 seconds and Bebe collecting the Most Easily Distracted Award for being the final finisher in 8.76 seconds.  She also received a medal for Most Consecutive Harriers Hounds races by completing her 11th event.

There were 6 starters and 6 finishers at the Harriers Hounds Race with three four-legged spectators including Garfield's new puppy, Oreo.  The hounds were accompanied by 28 two-legged spectators which posed for a club picture on the beach before their traditional Saturday morning run on the trails.  The Harriers have been gathering at Thetis since 1976 and John McKay and Bob Reid were there for the PIH inaugural run when the club was formed in 1978, 40 years ago.  Full results from the race are shown and a link to Joseph Camilleri's teriffic photo album accompanies the results.
