An annual event held in Powell River, the last Sunday in April, this event is organized by not one, but four community groups: Club Fat Ass, the Powell River Parks & Wilderness Society, the Powell River Hikers and the BOMB (Bloody Old Men's) Brigade.  The remarkable volunteers do a superb job and make it look easy  There were no fewer than four well-stocked aid stations on the 29K course, including one where a cozy campfire and friendly vibe tempted me to plunk myself down with a hot cuppa.

This is a fun, very low key, community event.  A 12K hike is an option for those who are taking a break from running.  Registration is by donation, with the proceeds going to maintain the Sunshine Coast Trail.

The run course is along an interesting mixture of very old and very fresh trails that include: narrow single track, overgrown skidder road and, best of all, only a few hundred metres of dirt road.  Runners from Victoria will enjoy the rare chance to run many kilometres of trail with NO MUD.  The route is constantly up and down and a short stride is called for.  The final few kilometers is a cruel climb over Scout Mt. with a tricky descent calling for picking your way carefully over loose rock.  The run finishes at the Shingle Mill Pub - the food is good food, and the beer is better.

I rate this event: a big 'thumbs up'.
