Complete List of Race Winners to 2019
Initiated in 1997, a few weeks after Susan Reid passed away, the 29th annual Harriers New Year's Day 10K Run/2K Walk on the Elk/Beaver trails honours all Harriers that have passed on.
Meet at the Harriers Memorial Bench at Beaver Lake Park located on the lakeside trail, about 100 metres north of the picnic shelter by the lower (gravel) parking lot at the south end of the lake.
The 10K Run is a predicted time run with no watches allowed. The clock starts at 60 minutes and counts down to zero. Start your run when you think you'll finish with the clock as close to zero as possible. There is also a 4K Run option and a 2K Walk option at the event. The closest finisher to zero wins a prize. You don't have to be a club member to join in; everyone is welcome. Happy New Year!
There is no entry fee but participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Harriers Foundation supporting eight scholarships and bursaries at Camosun College and the University of Victoria. The first year of the run, family, friends and Harriers donated nearly $20,000 to establish the Susan Reid Bursary in Civil Engineering by running the event in two feet of snow at Elk/Beaver Lake Park. Since then over $290,000 has been donated to eight scholarships and bursaries as well as over $23,000 in financial assistance donated for handicapped athletes, charitable projects, medical research, athletes' travel assistance, youth teams and many other worthwhile initiatives in Greater Victoria.
