The Harriers Pioneer 8K is located in beautiful rural North Saaanich, about three kilometres south of the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and one kilometre north of Sidney.

Race activities & the finish line are centered on the Rest / Tourist Info area just off the Pat Bay Highway, with pre-race late registration & package pickup and post-race refreshments & awards a few hundred metres away (if you can fly like a crow) across the highway in North Saanich middle school.

Both venues have parking and are accessible off the highway in either direction at McDonald Park road.  Pedestrians and cyclists can use an overpass to go between.  The ~1100m route will be marked with cones — a nice warmup and cooldown.  Driving between takes 5-10 minute as you can't go directly across, so pick your side to park.

Course Description/Event Records

pioneerThe semi-flat rural road course is certified and the event is sanctioned by BC Athletics.  Race records are 22:58 (Carey Nelson in 1985) and 25:28 (Natasha Wodak in 2013).  View the 2019 Pioneer Course map, click full screen and open the blue notes for details.

Post-race food and beverages will be served at the North Saanich Middle School on McDonald Park Road using the pedestrian overpass across the highway from the Start/Finish area at the Tourist Information Centre.
